Optimizing the Use of Midline Catheters

      The use of midline catheters is on the rise. Understanding the best use of these devices requires an understanding of anatomy, evidence-based standards, the forces that drive their use, complications and how to avoid them.  Clinicians need to also keep an eye on the horizon for new technologies that head off complications and improve outcomes. 

      Objectives:

      The purpose of this one-hour program is to:

1.   Discuss the forces that are currently driving the expanded use of Midline catheters

2.   Identify the 3 key standards related to the insertion and maintenance of Midlines

3.   Identify 3 major complications and evidence-based interventions.

4.   Discuss the impact of materials on complications.

            Speaker Bio

Eddie Korycka,MSN RN has nearly 30 years of nursing experience with 20 years in the vascular access specialty. Professionally he has worked in staff level positions in the ED and Home Infusion.  He has held management positions as a nursing care coordinator and clinical specialist.  He has held executive clinical education positions in the medical device industry over the last 10 years.  In service, he is an active member of the Association for Vascular Access and the Infusion Nurse Society.  He has served as chapter president on the local level of INS, on the national committees for INS and as an editorial reviewer for the Journal of Infusion Nursing and the 2024 Infusion Nursing Standards.  He has also served as president of the AVA foundation. His focus at Access Vascular Inc. is on optimizing patient outcomes through the promotion of novel products and innovative training for clinicians.
